If 2020 was a regular, non-pandemic kind of year, we would be deep in the process of planning for our 17th annual Soup's On event. We'd have a venue reserved, live entertainment lined up, sponsorships and donations secured, volunteers at the ready, and of course, a local nonprofit selected to benefit from the community's generosity and support. But it's not a regular year and, for the health and safety of all, Soup's On will be taking a year off. Not only is the gathering prohibited, but the ability of our local businesses to contribute has been greatly hindered by the challenges they've faced over the past months. This year, instead of soliciting donations from local restaurants, wineries, breweries, and other contributors, we're flipping the model and calling on our friends and neighbors to give back to the businesses who have made Soup's On possible for so many years, allowing tens of thousands of dollars to be given to the difference-makers in our community. This year, our local businesses become our beneficiary. I am encouraging everyone to purchase gift cards to send to family and friends, fill tables with tasty take-out, and stuff stockings with locally made treats. Let's nurture the Yolo Way and show our appreciation by supporting the businesses that do so much to make Yolo County such an amazing place to live and work.
